Public Transport Improvements

At Skyline 120 we felt it was important to make the Business Park as accessible as possible for its users. As part of that we have negotiated external bus routes 9/ 10 so that they come into the site and stop at a new bus lay by, to be constructed with a shelter, located to the east of the internal roundabout. A secondary bus stop proposed to the west of the internal roundabout, to ensure the whole site has easy access to the bus service. This will mean that using the bus couldn't be easier, with routes 9 and 10 serving Braintree town centre, including bus and train stations.

Travel Information is to be provided by the companies at Skyline 120 to staff through Induction Packs. Information is also readily available via this website.

Travel information - The Sustainable Travel Manager proposes to make easy to understand timetables and route information available to employees through notice boards. Employees and residents can also request personalised travel information by calling 0845 602 5229.

All occupiers are encouraged to offer interest free season ticket loans to their employees and give consideration to partially subsidising the cost of these tickets.

Rail Travel should be positively encouraged as the favoured way of travelling to long distance meetings.

Proposals for cyclists

Encouraging cycling can lead to a healthier, more productive work force. Cycling is cheap, reliable and environmentally friendly. The National Cycling Strategy aims to quadruple cycle use by 2012 from a base of 1996.

  • An existing 3m segregated cycle/footway from the Garden Village around the site access roundabout and the first internal roundabout. These will connect into footways further along the access roads within the site.
  • Improvements to the existing crossing facility of the A131 at the site access roundabout.
  • Linkage to the existing underpass below the A131 to the south of the access roundabout near the Country Park.
  • The provision of covered cycle spaces.
  • Shower changing and storage facilities located within some larger buildings.

Notice boards will display local area cycle maps. Maps have also been provided to employees via their induction packs. Free copies are available from Essex County Council for employees.

Proposals for Pedestrians

Infrastructure measures have been implemented to benefit pedestrian movement in the local area. Some of these overlap with the improvements for cyclists and include the 3m segregated cycle/ footway from Great Notley Garden Village to the Skyline 120 Business Park, and improvements to the existing crossing facility of the A131. In addition there are two footpath links between the Country Park and Skyline 120.
