1. Why should I Car Share?
Identified benefits over driving alone are:-
- Saving money.
- Time to relax without driving stress.
- Opportunity to socialise.
- Priority parking.
2. Reasons for not Car Sharing
The reasons often quoted for not wanting to share a car are:-
- Fear of not being able to get home in an emergency.
- The need to keep agreed schedules.
- Being less able to stop off on the way home from work.
- Less time to one's self.
3. I would Car share but I am worried about getting stuck at work, can this happen?
Many employers operate a guaranteed ride home scheme for their car sharers, for use in a genuine emergency. For example, if you needed to leave in the middle of the day, to pick an unwell child up from school. Research has shown that this is generally rarely used and can offer peace of mind. The ride home is usually a free bus journey, a lift with another car sharer, a free taxi or other appropriate means.
4. Can I be guaranteed a parking space?
It is suggested that car sharers are designated the most attractive parking spaces (with the exception of disabled spaces).
5. Do I need to car share every day?
No! We obviously encourage people to car share as much as they can, but sharing once or twice a week will still make a difference to congestion and the environment. You do not have to make a long term commitment and can try it out for a week or so to see how you get on.
